Candelaria Industries Presents Redevelopment Vision to Port Angeles City Council

October 21, 2026 — Port Angeles, Washington

On October 20, Candelaria Industries founder Rob Janicki presented the company's evolving vision for redevelopment of the former McKinley paper mill to the Port Angeles City Council.

Candelaria is evaluating the acquisition and rehabilitation of the property, with a long-term goal of establishing a diversified industrial campus that makes productive use of existing waterfront infrastructure.

The proposed initial phase involves three containerized computing modules located inside an existing industrial building, supported by a request for 9.9 average megawatts of electrical service. This compact modular data-center installation is intended to generate working revenue that can support investment in rehabilitating the property and developing additional industrial opportunities.

Potential future uses include restarting biomass cogeneration and exploring complementary industries involving wood products, marine services, aquaculture, and technology. These opportunities remain subject to further evaluation, financing, tenant interest, and applicable approvals.

Candelaria recognizes the questions raised by City Council members and the community regarding electrical demand, water use, environmental impacts, employment, and potential future expansion. We are committed to providing factual information as planning progresses and technical details are confirmed.

The October 20 meeting was informational. It did not constitute approval of the project or an electrical-service agreement.
